Gates and ironwork in Barton Creek
Our team provides gate operators with keypad and intercom entry, delivering discreet security for homes and durable finishes for both residential and commercial projects. We measure each site ourselves and fabricate in our own shop, working from shop drawings the owner and the design committee see before any steel is cut.
From a Patrician Bronze finish matched to the neighborhood fence standard to a full motorcourt with walls, columns and an automated gate, our team handles every detail. Serving Barton Creek, Lost Creek and Lakeway, we read your section's POA rules and check the job against them at quote time.
Why Austin Metal Gates
How We Work
No stock panels cut down to fit, and no handoffs. The crew that measures your opening builds and installs the gate.
In Barton Creek, the POA Decides Whether a Front Gate Is Allowed
Barton Creek, about 7 miles west of downtown Austin, is not governed by one set of fence rules. The community is split among several property owners associations, each with its own recorded design guidelines, and the difference between them can decide whether a front driveway gate is possible at all.
Barton Creek Southwest's recorded Amarra Drive Phase 2 guidelines are the clearest example. Section 2.6.13 states that front yard walls, fences and gated driveways are prohibited. The committee may allow a gated motorcourt, provided its walls do not extend in front of the front facade of the house.
So we never promise a front driveway gate in Barton Creek. Some sections may allow one and some plainly do not, and the answer for your lot is in your section's documents, not in what a neighbor on another street has. At the first visit we ask which POA covers the property, read its current guidelines, and design from there. The job is then checked against those rules again at quote time, because guidelines are amended.
The Gated Motorcourt: Where an Automated Gate Can Fit
Where the front yard is off limits, the motorcourt is the answer the Amarra guidelines themselves offer. A motorcourt gate sits within walls that stay behind the front facade, so the entry is enclosed without a gate or wall across the front yard.
The design follows from that position. A pair of swing leaves suits a motorcourt with room to open inward against its walls. Where the court is tight or the drive climbs, a slide or cantilever gate travels sideways, and a cantilever rides on rollers beside the opening with nothing across the pavement. Automation brings an operator sized to the leaf, photo eyes, a keypad or intercom at the approach, and a backup battery, all set up to UL 325.
Restraint matters here too. The same Amarra document lists excessively formal or ornate gates, fencing and ironwork as undesirable, and it notes the neighborhood already has a gated entry feature at its entrances. A clean, well-proportioned lot gate that sits quietly within that setting is more likely to be approved than an elaborate scroll design.

Fence Specifications: Bronze Pickets, Six to Eight Feet, No New Wood
The Amarra Phase 2 guidelines specify the house fence down to the color: brown or bronze wrought iron style pickets, 6 feet high above natural grade, compatible with fencing found throughout the Barton Creek community. The detail drawing notes Patrician Bronze. On golf-course lots, fencing stays at least 50 feet off the golf-course property line.
The Estates of Barton Creek Architectural Guidelines set a different frame. All fence materials, color, design and size must be approved by the ARC. Fences must be 6 feet in height and may go up to a maximum of 8 feet. No new wood fences will be allowed, and no chain link or wire fencing will be approved, apart from vinyl-clad court fencing. The guidelines also separate the gated sections of the Estates from non-gated sections on county roads.
Wrought iron style is the right description, because a modern iron fence is mild steel shaped to resemble hand-worked iron. We galvanize it in molten zinc for a bonded barrier against corrosion, then powder coat it in the bronze tone the committee specifies, so the color is matched at the approval stage rather than guessed at the end.
Texas SB 711 and What a Barton Creek POA Can Still Require
Texas SB 711, in force since September 1, 2025, rewrote Property Code 202.023. A property owners association may no longer prohibit a perimeter fence. That does not end POA review. The bill lets an association require a driveway gate to be set back at least 10 feet from the right-of-way where the driveway meets a laned roadway, regulate fence type and material, and, where a restrictive covenant provides for it, prohibit fencing in front of the front-most building line.
For a Barton Creek owner that means two things. A perimeter iron fence around the rear and sides of a lot is on firmer ground than before. A fence or gate in front of the house can still be prohibited where the covenants say so, which is exactly what the Amarra Phase 2 wording does. Exceptions exist for fencing built before September 1, 2025, for addresses exempt from public disclosure, and for owners with a law-enforcement letter on a security need.
We read the statute and your section's covenants together at the site visit, and we tell you which parts of your plan need committee approval.

What Drives the Cost of Gates and Fencing in Barton Creek
We quote every Barton Creek job in writing after the site visit, and never before it. The factors that move the figure:
- Whether the plan is a motorcourt gate, a perimeter fence, garden gates, railings, or a combination.
- Opening width, leaf count, and swing, slide or cantilever.
- Fence height between 6 and 8 feet where the guidelines allow a choice, and run length, including the 50 foot offset on golf-course lots.
- Picket and frame gauge, and the pattern the committee approves.
- Galvanizing under a bronze powder coat.
- The operator, its duty cycle, and power by trench or solar panel.
- Keypad, intercom, photo eyes and safety edges.
- Motorcourt walls, masonry columns and footings.
- Slope and grade across the lot.
- Preparing the POA submittal and any revisions it asks for.
The measure is free, and the scope is fixed there.
From POA Submittal to Final Adjustment
The job opens at the property. The crew that will install the work measures the facade line, the drive, the lot lines and the grade, and notes golf-course frontage where it applies. We confirm which POA governs the section and pull its current guidelines.
Next come shop drawings: elevations, picket spacing, heights above natural grade, color, column details and the gate's swing or slide path. You review them, and they go to the design committee. If the committee asks for changes, we redraw. Nothing is cut until approval is in writing.
Fabrication and welding take place in our own shop. The steel is galvanized and powder coated before it travels, and on site the crew sets columns and posts, hangs the gates and fence panels, and installs and tests any operator. You get a walkthrough, the manual release shown in person, and a written warranty.

Questions
Barton Creek: Gate and Fence Questions
Can I put a driveway gate at the front of my Barton Creek home?
It depends on your section. Some recorded guidelines, such as Amarra Drive Phase 2, prohibit front yard walls, fences and gated driveways and allow only a gated motorcourt behind the front facade. We read your POA's rules before we design anything.
Who submits the plans to the POA?
We prepare the drawings the committee needs, with heights, color, materials and details, and help you submit them. Any revisions the committee asks for are part of our job.
What color and height will my fence need to be?
That comes from your section. Amarra Phase 2 specifies brown or bronze pickets 6 feet above natural grade, while the Estates of Barton Creek sets 6 feet with up to 8 by ARC approval. We match whatever your guidelines state.
Does Texas SB 711 let me build a fence my POA used to refuse?
It stops an association prohibiting a perimeter fence, but it can still regulate type and material, require a 10 foot driveway gate setback on a laned road, and bar front fencing where the covenants say so. We check both at the site visit.
What does a gate or fence cost in Barton Creek?
It depends on the mix of work, opening width, gate type, fence height and length, steel gauge, finish, operator and power, access control, columns and approvals. We quote in writing after a free measure.
Swing or slide for a motorcourt?
A court with room for the leaves to open inward suits a swing pair. A tight court or a climbing drive suits a slide or cantilever. We decide it from the measurements.
What happens to an automated gate when the power fails?
A backup battery keeps the operator working, and a manual release lets you open the gate by hand.
How long does fabrication take after approval?
It depends on the design and the shop schedule, and we give a written date once the committee has approved the drawings.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. The finished work is handed over with a written warranty.
